Formed in 1991, Britpave promotes and develops the use of concrete paving in all areas of transport infrastructure through its six task groups: roads, airfields, bus and rail, soil stabilisation, sustainable construction, barrier and drainage.
The six task groups liase with government agencies, local authorities and private clients in maintaining and developing the best practice and standards.
Britpave also lobbies MPs, commissions research, promotes the use of concrete, improves understanding among the public and official bodies of its activities and contributes to the preparation of British and European standards.
It provides knowledge and networking opportunities through its websites, seminars and study tours. It develops technical excellence through its publications and other media.
Members are based in the UK and internationally, including contractors, consulting engineers and designers, suppliers of plant, equipment and materials, as well as academics and clients.

This is the website of Britpave’s Bus and Rail task group, which works to develop knowledge and expertise in design and construction of guided busway schemes and railway slab track (or ballastless track). Britpave has particular expertise in the use of concrete in bus and railway infrastructure, especially slipformed in-situ (created on site) concrete.
Slipforming allows elements of a guideway or railway track to be created on site (in-situ). In the slipforming process, ready-mixed concrete is poured into the front of a paver (effectively a large, slow moving mould), which places the concrete so that it emerges in a profiled shape from the back of the paver.
An explanation of guided busway and railway slab track systems can be found on the Frequently Asked Questions page.
The task group draws it members from consultants, contractors, academics, and railway component manufacturers. Members have experience in the design and construction of infrastructure for guided bus systems, and for a wide variety of concrete and traditional railway track systems for light rail, heavy rail and high speed rail applications.
We are always seeking new members for our Bus and Rail Task Group. If you would like to know more about this role, please let us know your interests through our Bus and Rail contact form.
